Botox For Frown Lines

Why so serious?

Have you ever had a family member or friend ask “are you upset” or “what is wrong? You look angry”. These questions can get beyond annoying over time. Having these frown lines can give patients an angry or negative appearance.

This is why the commonest treatment is muscle relaxing injections with Botox which helps to soften these frown lines reducing the look of tension or anger.

Botox administration is an Art

Now there are some misconceptions around Botox and how it is likened to getting your hair done or a manicure.  Unfortunately there’s not enough guidelines or regulations around this industry so you can pick up injectable products like Botulinum Toxin over the internet, and unfortunately you will have unscrupulous people who will use these products on vulnerable yet smart patients.  I have been on a lot of courses where they highlight counterfeit products and the harm they can do.

There is also an art to Botox administration and treatment.  To achieve the best, most natural looking results it must be placed in the right muscle, in the correct place, at an ideal dose, by an experienced practitioner.

You will be a walking advert of my work, and the best results are those where you look great but no one can work out why.

Why do we get frown lines?

The major cause for frown lines are the excessive motion of the procerus muscle and corrugator muscle.  Activities that cause people to furrow their brow in concentration, include driving, computer use and being hyperactive with your expressions.

When these muscles contract they pull the eyebrows inwards, downwards and cause either vertical or slightly slanted lines on either side of the frown.

Over time, excess motion, gravity and skin laxity can cause fine lines and wrinkles to increase.

How can frown lines be treated with Botox?

The treatment will involve painlessly delivering the Botox using tiny needles into specific facial muscles. This temporarily relaxes the muscle which in turn creates a smoother appearance of the overlying skin resulting in softening of the wrinkles and revealing a fresher and more rested appearance.  The untreated muscles move as normal; thus preserving normal facial expressions.

However, if the frown lines are deeper and etched in the skin, then using Botox alone will not be enough and we may suggest combining a botox treatment with medical grade skin care and fillers, to improve and maintain the results.

Can the frown lines be treated without treating the forehead lines?

Yes. You can reduce lines and wrinkles in specific areas. Some people like to have a lot of expression and lines on their forehead but still want to relax their frown line. An experienced practitioner  will know where to place the Botox, in the right muscle, in the correct place, at an ideal dose, for the perfect result.

By simply reducing the frown line between the eyebrows, many feel as though they look more refreshed and approachable in their workplace and/or social life.
